First Black Super Bowl Head Coach

Related Categories: General

Congratulations to coach Lovie Smith of the Chicago Bears on becoming the first Black head coach to reach the Super Bowl. Congratulations to coach Tony Dungee of the Indianapolis Colts on becoming the second Black head coach to reach the Super Bowl. Both coaches are good friends and their victories were separated by a couple of hours and a few hundred miles. Both gentlemen have not only cemented their place in history, but their teams' victories ensure that Super Bowl XLI will be the first to be won by a Black head coach.

It's interesting that this historic moment happens less than a week after 21st celebration of MLK, and Super Bowl XLI will happen in Black History Month. Hopefully there will be a day when we no longer need postings like this one and we truly realize MLK's dream.

Scott Stroz's Gravatar I think Dungie gets stiffed by being called the second simply because his game was scheduled later in the day ;)

In the words of Sam Cook: "It's been a longgggggggggggggggggggg...a long time coming...but I knowwww-ohhhhhhhh...change go'n come. Oh, yes it will."
