There are lots of companies which require document deliveries throughout the entire working day in the Central Business District (CBD) area – Shenton Way in Singapore. Due to this high demand for document couriers, lots of courier companies have come up. However, not all of them are good. Many of them have fallen short of their service quality and went out of business within weeks or months. However, there is a relatively new company whose services I have engaged recently, and I thought they were really good. I used to use Regent on a regular basis for my document deliveries, but recently I found them to be lacking in terms of number of couriers as well as their speed and customer service support. Now I use Navast (http://www.navast.com/). They specialize in town to town deliveries in Singapore, and provide lots of support for document delivery statuses e.t.c. Word is that they got acquired recently but anyway, that’s not relevant to our discussion today.
When it comes to town to town deliveries, the essence of a good courier company is not prices, but accountability and speed of service and customer service support. When it comes to E-commerce businesses distributing their goods, they may need to find a low cost provider for their E-commerce product distribution because of the costs which will most likely needed to be passed onto their consumers. However, when it comes to document courier deliveries, it’s more about efficiency and promptness in customer service support. What I need is speed with accountability, and thus far, Navast Courier Service seems to work very well for us.
I highly recommend you check them out if you need town to town deliveries. Many people I know working in Tanjong Pagar work with them.
Distributing goods in Singapore can be a headache for new or first time business owners. This is especially the case if you do not already own a car or van. Travelling via public transport is too inefficient, slow and a waste of effort while travelling via taxi is too expensive and your operating profits may not be sufficient to cover a taxi ride to and fro. Therefore, turning to Singapore courier companies is the new standard that all E-commerce business owners do right now.
Companies like PCA Masters http://www.pcamasters.com/courier-delivery-singapore and Regent and Network Courier are working hard to accommodate to this new increased in demand for E-commerce distribution services in Singapore. In the past, although there were a lot of E-commerce websites, fewer people or entrepreneurs in Singapore dared to venture into that online space. However, with the Internet proliferating nearly every part of Singapore, many small and successful E-commerce companies have sprung up. The demand for courier services from companies like PCA Masters have been steadily on the rise ever since as more and more businesses and companies in Singapore require delivery and courier services locally at least.
Another great indication that courier companies have recognized this trend is SingPost which has invested in Alibaba. This is a great indication that SingPost is believing tremendously in the potential of all things to do with E-commerce. Powerful international freight carriers like Fedex and DHL have been in this game of providing courier and distribution services to E-commerce companies since a long time ago as well.
In a nutshell, everyone in Singapore and the surrounding regions (South East Asia) have realized that courier services need to quickly incorporate distribution services for E-commerce companies as well or they might lose out on this potentially big and still rapidly growing market in Singapore!
One of the biggest issues on business owners minds is whether they should actually hire an in house deliveryman who is dedicated to delivering items for the company or they should actually engage the courier and delivery services of an external courier company like PCA Masters or Regent or even SingPost.
Here are some tips to help you come to the right conclusion.
First of all, you need to understand that vehicle ownership is much more expensive in Singapore than in most other neighboring countries. This means that if you were to either purchase or lease a commercial vehicle for deliveries, you would be incurring a lot of expenses up front. To make it worse, you can only depreciate it over 10 years as COE would have run out. You would then need to be forced to dispose of the vehicle for virtually no money. This can be very expensive and is a clear unnecessary expenditure for companies which main business service is not deliveries.
Secondly, if you were to hire a deliveryman, the estimated salary including CPF payments for him or her would probably run up to around $2,000 to $3,000. This means that you should at least get him or her to deliver products (if you are an E-commerce business owner) which would profit you more than $2,000 to $3000 before it is worth it to hire him or her. However, if you were to engage an external courier company which specialty is deliveries, they have the advantage of economies of scale as well as prior training and experience. This means that they’re able to perform each delivery for much cheaper than your deliveryman would be able to perform. Not only would this save you effort, it would also save you a lot of money by engaging external courier services!
In a nutshell, engaging the services of a courier company would be the wise choice for most companies in Singapore.
There are courier delivery services for all kinds of industry – and the most common ones in Singapore are that of document and E-commerce deliveries.
However, another extremely important but seldom talked about branch of deliveries has to do with medical deliveries. Things which are usually delivered for medical institutions are usually packets of blood for emergency blood transfusion, or stool samples. Some of these things are very urgent and require immediate courier delivery services… and almost everything in the medical industry which require delivery is very urgent.
I heard that a career in this courier services industry can be very fulfilling and quite well paying, though it can be quite taxing and tiring at times. I would recommend you look into finding a courier company in Singapore that provides such deliveries as a job.
Personally, I have worked as a courier and have sent such medical goods before. I feel a sense of achievement and purpose – because sometimes I am actually delivering medical goods like blood packets for an emergency and this has made my career as a courier feel truly purposeful.
If you are an E-commerce website owner and have a lot of deliveries in Singapore to perform each day to your customers, then finding and working with a courier service with fast turnaround time is extremely important. If you’re an executive or founder at a business in Singapore which requires ad hoc courier deliveries throughout the week or month, then you also want to work with a courier company which is responsive to your requests and enquiries. The last thing you want is the lack of accountability.
There are several key reasons why you need to work with a responsive courier company in Singapore.
First of all, it gives you the reassurance that your package or item(s) are going to be delivered. There may be times where the courier company already has a full schedule and are unable to cater to your ad hoc delivery for the day. In such a situation, you want them to get back to you right away and at least let you know about their situation, so that you can rearrange for delivery on another day. This is so that you will not be waiting only for nobody to show up to pick up your item(s) for deliveries.
Secondly, there may be times where a particular document is extremely important to you or your business and you may worry excessively about the status of the delivery. Therefore, when you work with a good company like PCA Masters, or Regent, you will be able to be updated with the delivery status. This keeps you feeling reassured about your delivery.
Have you ever bought something from any company and found out that they’re extremely unresponsive? You certainly don’t want that when it comes to the courier company you’re partnering with. A courier may be handling something of great importance to you and you want to know that it is in safe hands.
In short, you would always want to work with a responsive courier company in Singapore.
There are slightly more than a handful of courier companies in Singapore and you might be inundated with all the companies in Singapore that you do not know how to pick the right one. If you’re an individual and you only need one or two deliveries, all these are not concerns for you. Just pick anyone that you so wish to pick. However, if you’re a business owner (especially that of an E-commerce company) looking for a courier company to partner for your deliveries, then you need to read this post. This is a must read post.
PCA MASTERS – one of the upcoming and fastest growing delivery company ever to be founded in Singapore, PCA MASTERS has always focused on providing exceptional customer service at highly reasonable prices. Even though they keep their prices only at the market rate, they go over and beyond usual customer service. After completing deliveries, they will always promptly send an email stating the successful delivery along with a photo capture of the completed / signed consignment note. I believe this practice is very good and I would definitely love to work with a courier company which is so incredibly accountable for their actions. This is because my main concerns with hiring courier services is dealing with the hassle of needing to travel to deliver something important and the fear that my items will get lost in deliver transition. PCA MASTERS clearly solves both of my concerns in one fell swoop.
REGENT – One of the older companies offering delivery services within Singapore island, REGENT is definitely a very reliable courier firm in Singapore. However, one can only expect slightly more traditional business practices if you were to work with an old company like REGENT. Most courier companies in Singapore are pretty traditional and they only use phone calls to communicate. In my opinion, that is an outdated practice and should not be continued. Businesses should use email, mobile applications and phone calls to communicate with their customers, and I expect such forms of communications when it comes to working with a courier company. Unfortunately, I do not think that REGENT offers such levels of services.
DHL – Clearly, one of the giant international courier companies, DHL is definitely cheap (due to their economies of scale) and reliable. However, in my opinion, DHL is definitely much cheaper when it comes to international freight and deliveries. For local deliveries within Singapore itself, many private courier companies can do it much faster and at far more reasonable prices.
Alright, with that said, hopefully the above comparisons will give you a better idea of what to expect from the various types of courier companies in Singapore and help you make a better choice. Nonetheless, I would still be sharing more tips in the upcoming days and weeks with everyone (businesses and individuals) on picking a suitable Singapore courier company for your local delivery needs.
If you own a business or are working, there would definitely be many occasions where you are required to deliver important documents from your office to a customer or partner firm’s office. Even though Singapore is small, it would still take you a fair bit of time to travel from one end of Singapore to the other. Document deliveries in the city may be easy and you can do it yourself without wasting too much time and effort. However, if you need to deliver something too important to be delivered by mail, then you want private courier services in Singapore.
Many local courier companies provide very reliable document deliveries. In some other countries, you might find that the courier system is not safe… not even their postal services. However, courier companies like Network Courier and PCA Masters in Singapore are generally very reliable.
Why do I recommend courier companies instead of resorting to postal mail services or even registered mail by SingPost? This is because when you want to deliver something important to your recipient, it is much more professional and reliable to depend on something like courier companies instead of the postal services. There is no accountability when it comes to state postal services. If it gets lost in transit, nothing will be returned to you and you will not be compensated in monetary terms as well. How about registered mail? As mentioned in my previous post, you would need to travel to a local SingPost branch (which might not be near your office). Additionally, you would need to waste time and effort queuing up (and the queues can be really long on certain days!)
Instead of that, you can rest in your office and have a reliable courier pick up the documents from you and get it delivered safely and promptly. This saves you both time and effort while providing you with lots of accountability. In the event that the recipient is not around, they can return the package or document to you (and not just leave a form there asking the recipient to go to the nearest SingPost branch for registered mail – which is really stupid). You want to send your recipient something, so do it with more sincerity by using a professional courier.
First and foremost, my name is SargeWay and having lived in Singapore for the past 32 years, I find that many fellow Singaporeans still do not know a lot of things about the logistics industry in Singapore.
For example, there is a big difference between courier services and registered mail services in Singapore, but most of the people do not know this.
I get this question quite a lot, and so I decide to share the answer publicly here with everyone.
Firstly, courier services are services provided by private courier companies located within Singapore. These are companies such as PCA Masters Singapore or Regent. Courier services are basically delivery services but there would either be a rider or a driver who will be dispatched to pick up the items from you or the sender. You can specify the exact time that you want the collection to be performed. You can also specify the time that you want it to be delivered. Basically, it is a premium level of service where the deliveryman or courier will be able to cater to your every whim and wham. Courier services are meant for both businesses as well as consumers. Upon delivery, there would be a signed consignment note by the recipient to act as proof of receipt.
On the other hand, registered mail services are provided by SingPost and not couriers. Essentially, you will need to travel to any local SingPost branch in Singapore and pass them your documents or parcel over the counter. (Sometimes, you need to queue for very long.) They clearly do not offer any kind of pick up services whatsoever. You would need to deliver it to them. After they have collected the item(s) from you, it would be more similar to that of courier services, whereby the SingPost deliverymen would also provide the recipient with a consignment note which he or she would sign upon receiving it. However, something you might want to note is that registered mail can be really troublesome for businesses or busy individuals who have no time or patience to queue long queues at SingPost branches. The queues there is almost always very long. Why waste your precious effort and time on SingPost when you can engage private courier services for similar or perhaps even cheaper prices?
